Ask anyone in the UAE where to hunt for car parts in person and two Sharjah names come up again and again: the used auto parts market in the Industrial Area, and “BMW Road”. They are not the same place, they work differently, and knowing which one you need saves you half a day of driving. What is BMW Road?
BMW Road is the local nickname for a stretch of road in Sharjah’s industrial district lined with auto parts shops and workshops. The name stuck because German marques — BMW above all — historically dominated the storefronts, but today the street serves far more than one brand: you will find counters dealing in parts for Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Japanese and Korean makes, alongside general accessory and consumables shops. It is a shop street, not an open-air market: most businesses are small storefronts with a counter, a back store, and a workshop or two between them.
What the shops sell
Expect a mix of new aftermarket parts, genuine (OEM) parts, and used parts pulled from donor cars. The same part is often available in two or three grades, and the gap between them is wide — so it always pays to ask what exactly is on the counter: new original, new aftermarket, or used. Consumables — filters, brake pads, belts, sensors — lean towards new stock; body panels, lights, mechanical assemblies and electronics are where used and refurbished parts appear. Many counters can source a part they do not hold in stock within a day through their own supplier network.
BMW Road vs the Sharjah used-parts market
The Sharjah Industrial Area used auto parts market is a different world: yards and warehouses full of half-cuts, nose cuts and complete donor cars, where parts are cut and pulled to order and almost everything is used. Practical tips for buyers
Bring your VIN. Part numbers beat descriptions every time, and any serious counter can decode a VIN to match the exact variant of your car. Compare two or three shops before committing — walking twenty metres to the next storefront is the cheapest research you will ever do. Ask explicitly whether a part is new, refurbished or used, and whether it carries any exchange or return terms; policies vary shop by shop, and a quick question up front avoids arguments later. Cash and card are both common, but small counters may prefer cash. Friday mornings are quiet; late afternoons on weekdays are the busiest. And if a used part is offered dramatically cheaper than at every other counter, inspect it twice — cracked mounts and repaired connectors hide well under a fresh coat of degreaser.
